PIP - government proposed changes to benefit system was created by zaib
I started receiving PIP both components at age 64, it is an ongoing AWARD and I have continued getting PIP after reaching pension age.
If the objective of the government is to change benefit for people under pension age to help them back into full work but it may affect those who continue to need it after reaching pension age, on an indefinite AWARD, under the present rules.
I am very worried .Apparently PIP will effectively stop for me , if changed to vouchers etc from GP. I don't have the physical and mental capacity to avail anything through the proposed reimbursements through GP route I can hardly manage my frequent GP appointments. The proposed changes can push into a situation it would be hard to survive independently . I don't know if government is also considering other changes such as care home system .
Can anyone please advise if there can be a possibility of a legal action to keep the ongoing AWARDS in tact as they are in place, at the time..

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Zaib,
This is a huge subject that is worrying A LOT of people, including myself. I would say at the moment, following on from the expert advice from Martin Lewis, please see the below link:

Hope this helps, Chris.

There is yet no decision by the new government on earlier PIP consultation that was initiated before it came to power but it sounds like more difficult decisions may be made after means testing of pensioners' winter fuel payment and reintroducing the law about bank accounts of benefits claimants, and fresh talk of actions as crackdown on benefit fraud to fix the economy, getting long term sick people back to work .It is really a good thing if a sick person can be helped by jobcentre back to work to live with dignity .
Yet I don't understand when thousands of eligible pensioners do not claim pension credit for concerns about privacy and personal freedoms why should any of them claim winter fuel payment through claiming pension credit particularly after reintroduction of previous government proposed law to access their bank accounts they would be more concerned about breach of their privacy . And how can monitoring of their bank accounts help a non means tested PIP claimant's physical/mental ability to go back to work and stop PIP claim. Or is it being assumed that some disability claimants are also working undisclosed but then HMRC already have the powers to detect such income , if any and HMRC already share info with DWP .
Perhaps after the pandemic the state does not have enough money to keep paying all benefits claims ? Or
I may be missing something ?

when it comes to measure of triggering automatic bank reporting on benefit claimants it can be scary if mistakes happen as in this news about mortgage customers of a bank. FCA fined the Bank but can be very stressful for customers.

In another case, TSB sued a customer after mistakenly treating their large payment as a debit rather than a credit, which pushed them over the bank’s automatic threshold for litigation of customers in arrears.
