Understanding transition to Universal Credit

More

Have received a form speaking of transition over to universal credit
Will be retiring in two years
Natural migration seems to relate to change in cirumstances - not expecting this to happen
Voluntary migration does not give transitional protection so does not sound great
Managed migration sounds best option
Will I get sent a letter re managed migration if do nothing?
I read there was a three month time limit - did not understand what this was referring to
Thank you for any clarification re above

Hi Jane52

DWP are rolling out managed migration to legacy claimants over the next two years, at present they are starting with single tax credit claimants but I have read they will trial other legacy claimants.

They will send a letter to legacy claimants to apply for UC, if the claimant fails to claim within 3 months then their legacy benefit will stop.

You can keep up to date with what is going on by signing up to B&W free news letter which comes out fortnightly; benefitsandwork.co.uk/about/newsletter

Thank you Gary
So the letter I get from DWP will be a managed migration letter. That was something I wanted clarification on. Did not want to be replying to something within a 3 month time frame that meant I was voluntarily migrating. I do want the transitional protection.

Hi Jane52

The letter makes it clear, it is a managed migration letter for UC.

If you apply for UC before you receive the letter then you will not get the transitional protection.

Thank you Gary
That is clear now. Will wait for letter to arrive and remember I must respond to letter within three months of date of letter.
