Assessment cut short was created by Mary
Hi, my first time posting but thanks for this very helpful site. I was lucky enough to be awarded PIP, standard and enhanced mobility and have recently had a contribution based ESA medical. It was on the telephone and the nurse seemed quite nice, but after asking me about one or two of the physical descriptors said that she had all she needed and I would hear via the job centre within 2-4 weeks. Has anyone else experienced this please?

Whilst an LCW or WRAG award is points based the Support Group or LCWRA is not. You only have to meet one of the Descriptors to qualify for the latter.

Whilst there are other reasons why the assessment was curtailed I think the most likely is that you clearly met one of these Descriptors and the assessor decided there was no need to continue.

Just out of interest Gordon when I was assessed some years ago and placed in SG ( on a paper based medical) I requested the medical report. ESA 85a. When it arrived it stated I met SG criteria as I was unable to mobilise the required distance without assistance etc. Return to work unlikeley in long term.
I also gave detailed evidence at that time as to why I felt I should also meet SG criteria for the transferring and standing and sitting descriptors, but these weren't mentioned. I have often wondered if that was because they disagreed with me on those descriptors, but in light of the reply you have given to Mary on this post, would it be standard practise for assessors/decision makers to just leave it at that, once they had decided I met the criteria for a particular descriptor and not comment on other areas of the medical where I might have been succesful? (The mobilising descriptor always comes before the other descriptors on the ESA 50 anyway). In other words they would give only the information thay were required to?

Hi Mary and welcome to B&W

Yes, this has happened to me too. This was actually a face to face ESA "medical" a few years ago before lockdown. As with you after asking me about a few of the descriptors she told me that she had all the information she needed and that she would be sending her report to the DWP. A few days after the assessment I phoned the DWP and asked for a copy of the nurse's report - and I recommend you do the same - and from how it was worded it seemed clear that I was being put into the support group (having previously been in the work related activity group), this was later confirmed by the DWP in their decision letter. Like Gordon I think this may prove to be the outcome for you too and I certainly hope that it will be.

Kind regards

Mr B

Hi Micksville

It's impossible for us to know exactly why something may be omitted on a form or the reasoning behind it. We're not party to any information about what might be common practice when assessors complete them. You can always ring the DWP and see even after a length gap if it is possible to get a copy of the report and see what it says.

I did get the copy That's what I meant. The report only gave mention to the descriptor I had been succesful on Didn't say the claimant didn't meet this or that other descriptor Just that I had met the mobility descriptor. Nothing else.
