MR WAITING TIMES? was created by RHAN
Hi All

I put in for MR back in late July this year and had a text stating they aim to look at my case by a certain date which is only 7 days away now, yet I've heard nothing.

Is it normal to go the full term before they reply?
Can they take longer than 2 months for a Mandatory Reconsideration decision to be made?
Do they notify me via text when they have made a decision or I got to hope they send a letter out?

Thank you in advance. :)

Hi RG,

I waited 22 months in total for the whole process relating to the application of PIP.
Another user has also reported it taking 19 months before she finally got her award.
The MR's are usually around 4-8 weeks in my experience, however I can't confirm this for others.
I would contact them to put your mind at rest - however, please be aware that the call waiting times are often in excess of 45 minutes. My last 3 calls being 47 minute wait, 53 minute wait, and 1 hour and 9 minutes wait.

Regards, Chris.

Hi Chris

Thank you for getting back to me :).

Im almost 16months in from first applying, but took 7months to fill it in being so unwell, and now awaiting MR decision. I was just worried they already made a decision but holding back from letting me know so I would have less time to get help to sort an appeal out if needed.
If its normal to go the full term or further, then I can relax for a bit.

Thank you again.

Hi RG,

I'm pretty certain by law that you're entitled to your full month in order to reply - so if you haven't been given this, for whatever reason (could be Royal Mail delays for example) - I would contact them and ask for an extension.
I know they give you a month to fill in your form when you get it, but I'm sure I've read one of the other mods said that you can have up to 12 months for certain circumstances.
I would contact the PIP enquiry line and ask if there's any decision in relation to your MR yet, or is it still under consideration? It can't do any harm to find out, and know where you stand. That way, it'll probably help put your mind at ease. It may just be taking a long time due to the amount of claims they're having to deal with.

Hope this helps.

Regards, Chris.

Hi Chris

Yes I should phone them up, but apart from physical issues, I have a bad case of Social anxiety disorder and its not easy calling them up just to ask for an update, I take weeks to convince myself to do it.

I will have to try and do it atleast.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Hi RobinGoch

Although you have to put in for a Mandatory Reconsideration within one month of the decision letter - the DWP does not have a timescale for completing the process - so it can take a matter of weeks or it may take months. They will not be deliberately holding back telling you. We have heard that some people's decisions have got lost in the post. I know you are worried about whether you will have time to put in an appeal if you need to do so. Appeals are supposed to be submitted within one month of the date on the decision letter, but you can put in a late appeal up to a year later - so you really shouldn't worry. However, the only way to reassure yourself is to try and battle your fear and contact them to see what is happening. I know that is much easier said than done.
