Decision wait times following WCA

Hi everyone,

I am my husband's carer. My husband is currently claiming new style esa. He had his assessment 4 weeks ago yesterday via telephone. He initialy was due to have a video assessment but as they decided to call us the morning of the assessment and asked to bring the assessment forward a few hours ahead of schedule, this resulted in my husband having a meltdown (has autism among other mental health conditions) so they eventually agreed to reschedule to the following week to a first assessment of the day to minimise any disruption to the appointment time. Sorry drifted off track a bit there....but my question is is it usual to still be waiting for a decision at 4 weeks? What are other peoples wait times been for a WCA decision lately? Things are getting increasingly difficult at home the longer it's taking for the decision as my husband is becoming increasingly anxious/obsessive resulting in more frequent burnouts. Many thanks.

So sorry to hear of both your husband's and your own trouble and stress.

I submitted my WCA towards the end of July and recently received a favourable response. It took nearly 7 weeks to hear from them. I understand the stress it can cause. I sent my WCA by recorded delivery. I would suggest that if you haven't heard from them after 8 weeks contact them - or if you sent the WCA by recorded delivery - contact Royal Mail to affirm that it has been delivered. Good Luck.

Apologies I misread your initial question. Your husband was assesed by telephone you say. I waited nearly 7 weeks to hear about the WCA paper document I forwarded by post. I would wait 8 weeks at the most and then phone them.

I waited for two weeks after a telephone assessment to receive a decision.
