Hi! I wonder if you can help me please . I have my sons assessment report back and was delighted that he has scored as enhanced on both parts for 5 years which is great! So thank you so much for your help, I used your guide to complete his forms which made all the difference. I am extremely grateful for this award but l have been wondering about the award length? I had hoped he would get a 10 year award seeing as his condition is progressive. In the assessment report they have ticked “yes” to this question…” is it likely the functional restriction identified in this report will be present at the recommended point of review” .. I had been looking this issue up and had seen that they the (decision maker) should give a 10 year award when this box is ticked, is this correct? The assessor has said also “this is a progressive condition and therefore no significant improvement is expected “ . Your advice is very welcome! Thank you
We cannot tell you if you should challenge the award length, only you can make that decision.
You may want to write to the decision maker about the length of the claim, on the whole 3 - 5 years is usually the average.
For older claimants we do see what is called ongoing awards which is 10 years. The decision maker could revise the length of your sons claim, we have heard from a few members on the forum where this has happened.
