PIP phone call in psychiatric ward was created by David
I care for my son who has been sectioned yearly under the MHA due to psychosis. In the past the DWP have contacted him by journal and phone in the psychiatric ward. When he's back in the ward which is likely to be soon will the PIP go ahead with the phone assessment? Or shall I ask them to phone me on his behalf.

Hi Jones1988
Unless you are his agreed appointee, you can't speak on his behalf for an assessment. If he's hospitalised under the MHA, a phone assessment should not take place as he would clearly not be well enough to take part. As soon as he's hospitalised - let the DWP know. They can either make the decision to do a paper-based assessment or postpone it for a future date.

Thanks. Does it make a difference if he goes into the ward as a voluntary patient or has been sectioned? If I become an appointee does it mean that PIP won't try to contact him again?
