PIP succes! was created by Jay
Hereby I wanted to send my heartfelt thanks for the support and help offered by this website. My PIP forms arrived at the beginning of the year. I have just received my award for standard living needs and enhanced rate for mobility needs. The Benefits and Work guides as well as this Forum have been invaluable to me!
I also had to attend a medical assessment which was extremely tough for me. However the lady was kind and showed compassion which impressed me.
The best piece of advice I can give regarding the whole process is to make sure that you send all forms and other paper work with Recorded/Tracked delivery. As mentioned I received the forms in January. It took me many weeks to complete it, as extreme fatigue prevented me from writing more than about an hour or so every day. I send the forms and medical evidence with First Class post 6 days before the closing date. I heard nothing during February. However in March I received a letter from Motability saying that I needed to return the car as I had failed the PIP process! I nearly had an heart attack!
Needless to say I phoned the DWP immediately. I spoke to an unfriendly chap who told me that my PIP application was cancelled by the DWP because it had arrived after the closing date. I told him that this was impossible as I had a receipt with tracking information and online confirmation of the actual delivery. It was dated and signed for by the DWP office four days before the closing date! Suddenly it became rather quiet on the other end of the phone and I was quickly connected with another department, who told me that a mistake had been made. I wonder how many more 'mistakes' like this are made by the DWP.
But I was so grateful that I had spend the extra couple of pounds in the Post Office! In the end everything was sorted out with Motability, not by the DWP, no, I had to do it all myself. The DWP promised to send me a letter of apology, I am still waiting....
Anyway I have put this sorry saga behind me now and am pleased that the award is for the next four years. I could not have done it without the Benefit and Work guides, many thanks!
