Apologies if my post appeared to denigrate charity workers and their training. That certainly wasn't my intention. I am well aware that a large number of them are employees with a salary.
My comment was to suggest that I actually would like a definitive legal viewpoint from someone whose opinion has some legal standing.
I actually felt your view Gordon was very helpful and a good indication of the regulations. However, it would be good if I could get a definitive legal response to my query.
I will now contact my LHA and will also try to find a contact within the DWP for a definitive answer. There must be clear legal guidelines somewhere.
Anyway, thanks for your help.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

The DWP staff who man the call centres will not have the knowledge to answer your question and you are unlikely to be able to speak to a Decision Maker, even if you do then they may be unwilling to make a Decision on a situation that has not happened.
Your best bet is to do an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county to find a trained welfare advisor in you area. Most Local Authorities still retain a small staff.

Got my rebate & told by dwp how much I would be getting weekly, unfortunately because I had no option to claim UC before I knew results of rebate claim my disability premiums have now been lost. Almost £80 a week lost tis a big hit.
