Change from DLA to PIP with a home visit medical was created by drumbeat
Thank you for the PIP guide to form filling; it was invaluable in the trial of form filling and medical. I think a GP's letter to support your claim is essential especially if you discuss it with him first with suggestions on paper to which he can refer.
I was 2 months too young to continue with my unlimited DLA for highest rate mobility and lowest daily care.. I asked and received an extension of time to complete my form because sitting at a desk filling in a form is painful so had to limit how long I sat with my legs down each day.
I was originally asked by ATOS to attend a medical so I telephoned and referred them to the last line of my GP's letter which stated that if a medical was really necessary then I should be seen at home. The young man on the telephone immediately said he would put me down for a home visit so I did not need all my prepared argument.
The 'health professional' was a charming young lady who was a paramedic looking to understand more about chronic illness. It was a very relaxed interview and I realised she was 'on my side' and did understand the concept that when in continuous pain one finds ways to dissipate its effects, using imagination and creativity to try to do the actions and activities one wants to achieve.
After a long wait, I received a letter from DWP apologising for the delay in making their decision. Some weeks later I was very pleased, and surprised, to be told I would be receiving enhanced rate for both mobility and daily care. I was fairly sure I would get the highest mobility award but thought I might miss out on daily care. Thank you Benefits and Work.
