I would like to say a BIG thank you to this forum. Without the guides and tips I would not have been placed in the support group at the interview. I must stress how invaluable it is to remain focussed in the assessment to give your honest description of how your condition affects you.

I would like others to know that I migrated from IB to ESA(C) WRAG in late 2012 with a prognosis of 12 months. 10 months later in 2013 I got the dreaded ESA50. It took 13 months to have my Atos assessment. Whereas in 2012 it only took less than 2 months. I did inform both Atos and DWP about my change in condition 7 months prior to the assessment. I sent both recorded delivery and both had been signed for at their sorting office.

I have a couple of questions.

1. In light of the recent delays for existing claimants not having an assessment for 2 years and the backlog, do you think my 18 month will turn out to be much longer

2. Can I claim a backdate of support component as I did notify them monrhs before, if so how do I go about it.

Thanks you

Congratulations on the award.

To try and answer your questions.

1. It's not really possible to look this far into the future, the DWP have said that the queues are reducing, this may be the case in some areas, but are overall impression is that they remain much the same and may in fact still be increasing, it also appears that the DWP have missed the deadline for appointing a new Assessment Provider for ESA, what the implication of this is will probably not be revealed until next year.

2. It really depends on how the additional information was presented, unless you specifically requested an review of your claim due to a deteriorated condition, then the Decision to place you in the SG will only apply from the date it was made, not any earlier. It may be possible to show that you qualified for the SG earlier than this, but you will undoubtedly need the assistance of a trained Representative to achieve this and it will require you to challenge the latest Decision.

Very informative. It will help lots of others.

Just to clarify the second question. If i were to challenge the latest decision, would that mean the 18 month prognosis will then start at the backdated date? i.e in my case will it knock 7 months off reducing it to only 11 months. Maybe best to let things be.

There are three possible scenarios.

1. They back date the claim and set a completely new re-assessment date (e.g. 3 months to 3 years).
2. They back date the claim but re-assess after 15 months (e.g. September 2015).
3. They back date and use the current re-assessment date (e.g. May 2016)

If I had to pick one as being more likely than the others then it would be (3).
